Craft: Finger PaintingCraft: Finger Painting

Finger painting is such a fun activity to do with your children. It allows them to express their creativity without having to follow any instructions.

  • Play happy music while you do this activity together.
  • Make sure to use non toxic paints and protect the painting area with lots of newsprint.
  • Adult shirts make great painting smock for little kids. Simply roll up the sleeves and put the shirt on your child backwards and button the shirt up the back.

Extend this activity:

  • Although the best type of finger painting is free form, you could use this activity to paint a certain type of theme, perhaps an upcoming holiday or season.

What you need:

Painting smock
Newsprint
Large sheets of paper
Non toxic finger paints.
*Use chocolate pudding instead of paints for little ones who still like to put things in their mouth.

What you do:

1. Make sure to protect the painting area with newsprint and put a painting smock on your child.
2. Lay out a large piece of paper and open the paints.
3. Put on some happy music and paint way! If you your child is hesitant about getting his fingers messy, provide a brush he can use. Once he sees you using your fingers, it won't be long before he joins in the fun.
4. Once the paintings are dry, display them in a prominent place. Perhaps grandma and grandpa would like one too?
